Our verdict
The Chemex is the classic pour-over brewer for a reason: its thick bonded paper filters and hourglass glass body produce a notably clean, bright cup with very little sediment. The 8-cup size brews enough for a household without a second round, and the glass carafe doubles as a serving vessel. The trade-off is fragility and ongoing filter cost, since it needs its own bonded filters and the one-piece glass body has no handle to grab.
