Our verdict
The Encore has been the default entry-level burr grinder for over a decade because it covers the full range of home brewing, from fine pour-over to coarse French press, with 40 grind steps. Its conical burrs give a more even grind than a blade grinder, which is the single biggest upgrade most home brewers can make. It is a little noisy and the plastic grounds bin can attract static, but for drip, pour-over and press it remains the sensible starting point.
